For our Valentines celebration we gave each child 20 candy hearts for them to create a shape. They had a lot of fun!
With the cold weather here, we decided to change our Drama Centre into a Beach Hut. The children brainstormed all the different things we would need to create our hut. Ideas included sunglasses, bathing suits, goggles, sunscreen, hats, towels and sand. We worked hard to make a sign and then it was time to hit the beach. We even added sand play dough with sea animals at the play dough centre.
We read the book Snowballs by Louis Elhert. From this story the children sorted man-made and natural products. We then gathered a number of items from the story and the students used theses items to create there very own snow person.
We read the popular book 'The Mitten' and discussed the different characters in the story. We then read aloud the story 'The Old Man's Mitten' and created a Venn Diagram to compare the two books.
During our large group circle, we discussed the difference between a Deciduous tree and a Coniferous tree. We then took a closer look at different types of Coniferous trees during a small group and then placed them at the science centre. Dominic and Keltin enjoyed observing and inquiring about the different types. They commented that some were picky and some were soft. Dominic then decided to draw one of the branches on the mini clipboard provided. Sophia drew the Spruce, Pine and Cedar tress.
