Olivia brought some snails to school so we decided to place them at our science centre. We observed the children watching them and recorded the conversations they were having with their peers.
- They look cool. I like the way they are slimy. I think some of them are scared.
(Tayy)
- He's sleeping (Elliott)
- He's taking a nap (Olivia)
- The big one won't come out because it is scared that we will hurt him (Evan)

We then placed them in our aquarium and asked the children to describe what they saw.
- I can see one out of his shell and some slime at the bottom (Toby)
- One curled up in his shell (Evan)
- One is crawling on another shell (Jack)
- I see a snail holding on with his sticky things (Elliott)
- I see a little squiggly worm (Molly)
- One is crawling (Hunter)
- The big one is way up there. He is using his sticky things. He crawled up to the top. (Sophia)
- He goes slow (Keltin)
- One is sleeping in the leaves. The snail was moving. Maybe he is eating. (Taylor)
- He worked hard eating all that food (Evan)
